Have you ever been in a position where you feel stuck in a catch 22? You can’t move forward because you feel don’t have the resources and you don’t know what other options are available to you. Maybe the only way forward is facing up to a major fear or insecurity and you don’t know if you can do it.
Part of raising the bar in your business is stepping up and facing your fears. How do you rank on your fear factor? Is it stopping you from moving forward in your business?
Stepping up and Facing Fears
The first thing that you need to realise is that fear is normal. Every time I implement a new strategy, fix a price on a product or take on a new challenge I have my own fears and doubts to contend with. I sit and question will it work? Will people be willing to pay that much? Will I really be able to do that? What will people think? All of these fears like to rear their ugly heads every time I decide to step up to a challenge. Sometimes there are so many options available that the confusion of it all can paralyse you. What to do first, which will be the best strategy? You can go on endlessly. The trick is that even though you feel the fear and you are unsure of what the outcomes are going to be, you don’t let it stop you. You might be nervous, and holding on with white knuckles but you go ahead anyway. You take that leap of faith and quite simply don’t let your fear stop you. As you start to learn to handle your fears your confidence will increase. Put another way your fear factor rating will go down and it won’t easily put you off challenges or opportunities.
Tips for Handling your Fears in Business
• Recognize that having fears is a normal part of making decisions in business. No business is without risks so you can never be 100% certain that you will make the right choice.
• Know that in order to progress you will need to face your fears. You won’t be able to avoid them forever.
• Change the way that you look at obstacles. Rather than letting them expose your fears, turn them into reasons why you must overcome them.
• Plug into a business community where you can get encouragement and support. This is especially useful when you are facing big challenges.
• Don’t let your fears stop you from achieving your goals. Try something new, and in the process you may learn you have talents you didn’t even know you had.
• Practice facing your fears. In that way you will build some mental muscle that will help you to overcome them.
Fears are often small things that can make an obstacle look larger than life. When you take on the challenge, step up, and start to face your fears instead of letting them stop you, you can often achieve some amazing results.
